A Note from Margaret on their arrival in Honiara We had a great trip with mostly fine to light winds and only a few days of rough weather. We left on Friday the 1st of August at 7.30am and arrived in Honiara at 7.00am on Saturday the 9th so all in all it took almost exactly 8 full days. We were carrying a lot of fuel and extra food so our weight didn't help our speed which averaged just over 6 knots for the entire 1090 nm trip. The girls were sick again but only for the first day and early evening, they had recovered by the next morning but were still a bit sleepy. It only took 2 more days for them to back to normal and fighting again. Our crew man Bruce from Bundaberg was sick for the first day and a half which was interesting for him and us as well, but he recovered and became an able bodied seaman by the end of the trip. Graham our other crew man (Solomon islander from Bundaberg) was dubbed the "Scurvy Sea Dog" of the trip and was also awarded the title of "Eagle Eye" for his ability to spot other vessels that we could hardly even see through the binoculars. Our first crossing from Bundaberg to Solomon Islands will include our first guest, Graham from the Bundaberg City House of Prayer. When we arrive in Honiara we will be sailing to Western Province to assist SSEC leaders to reach remote villages. We plan to return to Bundaberg in October in time for the Awakening Celebration in October. |
