Bundaberg City House of Prayer - A New Day Dawns

"Fire in the Canefields"

Fourteenth of July 2005 marked the 111th anniversary of the Gospel coming to Solomon Islands (see historical articles) through a Solomon Islander, Peter Ambuofa from Bundaberg (Queensland, Australia) who had come to faith in Christ there, and had returned to proclaim the Good News to his people.  On this year’s SSEC anniversary which marks the day that Peter arrived back on he island, a delegation from Solomon Islands returned to Bundaberg for “Ground Breaking” Celebrations to mark the commencement of an SSEC beach-head prayer centre ministry in based in Bundaberg to serve the churches of Australia through prayer, intercession and evangelistic outreach to resident South Sea Islander and Aboriginal communities.  Over four days various gatherings with Bundaberg church representatives and South Sea Islander people culminated in an awesome service of worship and prayer on Saturday 16th July, in which the presence of God was known.  According to SSEC’s mandate to serve in humility, Roy and delegation members washed the feet of Australian pastors and mission leaders and a member of the Australian South Sea Islander community.  In typical Melanesian style, celebrations culminated in a feast cooked on hot stones in a Solomon Island style oven on the beach at Bagara at the home of Rod and Judy Coombs.  Enthusiastic praise to God followed the feast for all that He had done among His people during these days.  Significant stories are being told of all that God has done during the season of celebrations to confirm His direction in establishing this new wave of ministry as a first step in taking the Gospel back to Jerusalem, starting at Bundaberg (Queensland) the birthplace of SSEC.  Delegation members participated in morning services in four Bundaberg churches on Sunday morning 17th July, and combined at Hervey Bay Baptist Church (south of Bundaberg) for their evening service.

Rev Roy and Janet Funu, the first Solomon Islander missionaries to come to Australia shall lead the ministry of the “Bundaberg City House of Prayer,” and shall relocate to the Bundaberg area in early September 2005 to commence their new ministry.  It is envisaged that teams of intercessors shall travel to Bundaberg on a rotational basis for the ministry of intercession at the base in Bundaberg, and wider ministry among communities and churches throughout Australia, and internationally.

Regular reports of ministries and activities of the Prayer Centre shall be available on Roy and Janet’s page on this page.   Australian and international enquiries about this ministry are welcome.  Contact info@friendsofssec
